“I’m asking you to just hold on a little while longer, to get vaccinated when you can, so that all of those people that we all love will still be there when this pandemic ends.”

Gary, you are right on.  We have seen Polio virtually disappear in our life time.  Measles causing blindness, deafness or death is nearly gone.  I get a flu vacination early every year and don't get the flu.  We now live on an average 35+ years longer than those in the 1800's because of science.

I just can't understand those who won't get vaccinated.  I can't see it as a "rights" issue or a political issue.  It is just common sense and it protects others beside yourself.  I urge all to make a common sense decision to get vaccinated.  If you feel like waving a banner or shouting, do it some other way.

Enough said.

Hi Everyone,  I finally got around to looking at the forum.  It breaks my heart to see how many of our classmates have passed.  I am really pleased to find out about the planned 60th reunion.  I think that Ross Park would be the best venue.  We certainly enjoyed the last one we attended at the pavillion.  In the meantime take good care of you so you survive.  My fondest wishes to you all.  Sherron Grumbein Mahaffey.

SAVE THE DATE                          Saturday, September 11, 2021

Thanks to all those who responded here, by phone or by email concerning a 60th Class Reunion.

At our class luncheon last month I asked for volunteers to help so one or two people weren't doing all the work to put on a class reunion.  Being the great people that our classmates are, they volunteered and we are planning a catered picnic at Ross Park Pavilion on Saturday, September 11, 2021.  Bring a lawn chair and enjoy!  (the benches can get pretty hard after awhile)

The reunion committees are:

 1.   STAN ZWEIGART   Reserve park and get the city liquor permit.  Ice water will be furnished, you are welcome to bring whatever else you would like to drink.  (Stan has done his job, the park is reserved and the date set)

 2.  JACKIE TAYLOR VOYLES  She will greet people and check them off the paid list.  She will also bring a portable table to sit at.

 3.  RITA DEMOPOULOS HAGGARDT,   She will purchase some stick on name tags, a few sharpies and furnish a table to sit at and have arriving classmates fill out a name tag.

 4.  CHERI HONAS, Cheri is in charge of getting bids and ordering the food from The Sand Trap.  When the price has been set I will issue a bulletin.

5.  RANAE GREEN PALMER, I will type up and send out a bulletin with further details and a form to return along with your check to cover lunch.  If you have moved in the last five years, please send me your new address.

 6.  LYNDA KNUDSON WOODWORTH, Lynda is our reunion treasurer, she will collect and deposit the checks then furnish Jackie with a list of attendees.

 7.  KERRY JOHNSON,  Kerry will round up a couple of large coolers and purchase the cases of water and ice.

 8.  ROMA JENKS HURLEY, Roma volunteered to get tablecloths and decorate the area.  You could help Roma by bringing any pictures or memorabilia you might have from high school.

 9.  KAREN TWITCHELL HALFORD, Karen is the General Chairman.  She does a great job of reserving spots and putting out emails for our monthly luncheons, so for this job maybe make a few calls to double check that each person has done their job.

(Volunteers remember to save your receipts to get reimbursed from Lynda)

The pavilion is just north of the swimming pool and has water, electricity, and nearby restrooms.  If anyone has a sound system and some 'golden oldies' you would be welcome to bring them for some background music.  Or, with all the talent in this class maybe someone would like to entertain us??

Watch for the bulletin and hope to see most of you in September.

REMEMBER, we are the survivors, let's celebrate this milestone.

Gary Glenisky Class Of 62

I know many of you knew Kent Brimhall. I knew him myself, but not personally.  I know Glenn knew him; we played basketball on the same team. He is alive and well and lives in Kansas City.  I did, by accident, obtain his current email address. For any who would like to contact him, here it is:  kdbrimhall@yahoo.com

Perhaps one of you could invite him to join your class website. That's not up to me and I am not familiar with that process.

Glenn McMinn

I hope that we get to see Kent Brimhall.  I had contact with him and don't remember exactly where.  My recollection that he was in Northern Montana, possibly with Border Patrol in a town called Wiregrass.  I hope I am close to accurate.  I had been in Browning, Montana very briefly to help with some native american children.  That contact would have been about 1971--long ago.

Glenn, .....Was it Sweet Grass, Montana and not Wiregrass?  Forty years is a long time ago.

It probably was.  It was a long time ago.  Does that seem right that he was with the border check station there?

                            REMINDER

The deadline is nearing to return your reservation form for our 60th Class Reunion.  Any questions, just send us an email.  Hope to see you in September.

We had mentioned bringing any high school memorabilia.  Lets extend that to any items of interest you'd like to share.  ( Mary Nelle could bring some books that Guy had published.  Dick Marler could bring books Sharon Wilde Marler had pubished, etc.   Maybe you've been on a fabulous trip, or grandkids have a neat accomplishment.)

MORE SAD NEWS

Gene attended our monthly luncheon (I thinkk for the first time) in June held at The Pressbox.  It was good to see and visit with him.   Karen Halford called Gene on Wednesday, July 16th to see if he was planning on attending lunch that day.  Gene said "no, because he had been stung by a bee and his face was all swollen."   He was also driving the truck that day.  Another example of how fragile life is.

GENE HAROLD DRESSEN    June 3, 1943 to July 27, 2021

Gene Harold Dressen, 78, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 27, 2021, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Gene was born June 3, 1943, in Inglewood, California, to Harold Vincent Dressen and Eleda Amada Egan Dressen.  He grew up and attended schools in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School in 1961.  He also attended Idaho State University.  He served a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern States Mission.  Gene joined the Idaho Army National Guard.

On November 19, 1971, he married Cheryl Elaine Harris in the Salt Lake City Temple.  They were blessed with four childredn, Rachel, Mandy, Taylor, and Scott.  They made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Gene worked at the INEL as a computer programmer.  Gene and Cheryl later divorced.

On June 10, 1995, he married Lorraine Mary Young in the Idaho Falls Temple.  He became a stepfather to her four chidren, Jason, Chris, Angie, and Sarah.  Gene and Lorraine made their home in Idaho Falls where Gene worked as a truck driver for Doug Andrus.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various calliings through the years, including scout leader, temple worker and Elder Quorum President.  He was currently serving at the Bishop's Storehouse.  Gene had a strong testimony of the gospel and shared it often.  He tinkered with everything and enjoyed hunting, archery, restoring old cars, geology, fossil digging, and music.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine Dressen of Idaho Falls, four children and four step-children, 24 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Paige Alyse Antrim; and brother-in-law, Edward Delonas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the Coltman Ward ,12448 North 5th East, with Bishop Ron Perrenoud officiating.  The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service, both visitations at the church.  Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetary.  Services under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.

RIP  Gene

I am so sorry to hear about Gene Dressen's passing.  I knew him well growing up and spent years together in the Boy Scouts.  His father (also named Gene Dressen) was the scoutmaster of Troop 14, which held our meetings in the basement of the old 4th Ward Church.  Mr. Dressen was a major influence for good during my formative years.  He was such a decent man and he dearly loved his son Gene.
